First Time Brazilian Wax Tips: What to Expect Before & After
Getting your first Brazilian wax can feel nerve-wracking — and that’s completely normal. At Olive Glow Esthetics, many of our clients come in feeling nervous, shy, or unsure about what to expect.
The good news? Once it’s over, most clients say:
“That wasn’t as bad as I thought!”
If you’re preparing for your first Brazilian wax, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know before, during, and after your appointment so you can feel confident and prepared.
BEFORE YOUR FIRST BRAZILIAN WAX
Preparation is key to having the best wax experience possible.
1️⃣ Let Your Hair Grow
Hair should be at least the length of a grain of rice.
Avoid shaving for 2–3 weeks before your appointment. If the hair is too short, the wax won’t grip properly.
2️⃣ Exfoliate 24 Hours Before
Gently exfoliating removes dead skin and helps prevent ingrown hairs.
Use:
-
Exfoliating gloves
-
Sugar scrub
-
Chemical exfoliant pads
Do NOT exfoliate the same day — this can cause sensitivity.
3️⃣ Avoid Caffeine & Alcohol
Caffeine can make skin more sensitive, which may increase discomfort during your wax.
Try to avoid coffee or energy drinks the day of your appointment.
4️⃣ Wear Loose Clothing
After your wax, your skin will be sensitive.
Loose pants, dresses, or joggers are best to avoid friction and irritation.
DURING YOUR BRAZILIAN WAX
If you’re nervous — don’t worry. We guide you through the entire service.
At Olive Glow Esthetics, we use high-quality hard wax designed for sensitive areas.
What to Expect:
-
You’ll be draped for comfort and privacy
-
Service takes 15–30 minutes
-
Hair is removed from front to back (optional strip if desired)
-
We use techniques to reduce pain + irritation
Most first-time clients rate pain around 4–6/10 — and it gets easier every visit.
AFTERCARE: WHAT TO DO AFTER YOUR WAX
Post-wax care is extremely important for smooth, bump-free results.
🚫 Avoid for 24 Hours
-
Gym / sweating
-
Sexual activity
-
Hot baths or saunas
-
Pools / hot tubs
Your pores are open — heat and bacteria can cause irritation.
🧴 Soothe the Skin
Use:
-
Aloe vera
-
Tea tree products
-
Post-wax oil
This reduces redness and inflammation.
🪒 DO NOT SHAVE
Shaving between waxes disrupts hair growth and can cause ingrowns.
Stay consistent with waxing every 4–6 weeks.
🧽 Start Exfoliating in 3 Days
This prevents ingrown hairs and keeps skin smooth.
Exfoliate 2–3 times per week.
HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?
After your first Brazilian wax, results typically last:
3–4 weeks
With consistent waxing:
-
Hair grows back thinner
-
Growth slows down
-
Pain decreases
-
Skin becomes smoother
